Adrian Cheng is a graduate of Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts (Cum Laude) honours degree in East Asian Studies. He joined New World Group in 2006. As the visionary art entrepreneur behind New World Group and Chow Tai Fook, he uses innovation, art and culture to create new family businesses.
In his CEO capacity, Adrian oversees the daily operations of the New World Group and has revamped the brand and its businesses by introducing and implementing new strategies, policies and corporate culture such as “The Artisanal Movement”.
As an Executive Director of Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group, he is in charge of strategy, branding, marketing, e-commerce and VIP programme. He has injected his creative concepts into the 85-year-old, 2,200-stores jewellery brand and introduced the high jewellery collections (e.g. ‘Reflections of Siem’ in 2014), which showcased the exceptional craftsmanship and creativity of Chow Tai Fook.
The art pioneer has successfully created a new hybrid model combining art and commerce and introduced the new museum retail concept – K11, building high-end lifestyle art malls, offices and residences in Greater China. The flagship K11 Art Malls were launched in Hong Kong and Shanghai in December 2009 and June 2013 respectively. By 2021, a total of 19 K11 projects will be created across Greater China, providing a total gross floor area of 1.6 million sq. m.
Adrian also founded the K11 Art Foundation, the first registered non-profit organisation in China to incubate emerging contemporary Chinese artists and curators and to promote public art education. It provides art education for the masses through different forms and channels, including exhibitions, artist seminars, forums and K11 Art Village which started in 2010, etc.
In March 2012, Adrian was honoured with the title of “Young Global Leader” by the World Economic Forum and in October, he was also selected as one of the 2012 Fortune “40 Under 40” global business stars by Fortune magazine. In 2014, he received an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities degree from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), and an Honorary Fellowship from Lingnan University. He is Vice-chairman of the All-China Youth Federation and the Youth Federation of the Central State-owned Enterprises, and Committee Member of the Tianjin Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. He is ranked among the ArtReview Power 100 list in 2014 and 2015. He is Board Member of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority and member of the Interim Acquisition and M+ Museum Committees. He also sits on various committees and boards of international museums such as the Royal Academy of Arts, Centre Pompidou and TATE Modern.
